The Legacy of Awaab Ishak

Awaab's Law emerged following the tragic death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak in Rochdale in December 2020, who died from prolonged exposure to mould despite his family's repeated complaints to their social housing provider. This legislation stands as Awaab's legacy - a commitment that dangerous housing conditions will no longer be tolerated, and that swift action must be taken when tenants report hazards in their homes. The law represents a transformational change in housing safety, ensuring tenants are treated with fairness and respect, and that no family experiences what Awaab's parents endured.
